As the name implies, an LED light strip is simply a continuous length of flexible light-emitting diodes that can be mounted or installed on any surface where lighting is needed. LED light strips can be used in numerous ways, including for decoration, home and task lighting. Covered in an adhesive plastic shell, they are usually supplied in rolls of varying lengths which can be cut to shorter lengths depending on your specific installation needs.

LED light strips have a number of advantages over traditional incandescent and halogen lamps, chief among which is their energy saving capability. They consume very little energy, helping to greatly reduce your electricity bills in the long run. Additionally, they generate negligible heat, have high durability and are easily adaptable to your various lighting needs. Above all, they are very simple to mount or install.

When buying LED light strips, there are certain factors that you need to consider; such as light colour, water resistance, adhesive property and brightness. These factors play a crucial role in determining the type of light strip you choose to buy.
•Colour: Different strips emit different colours of LED light. The most common type available is the cool or warm-white single colour type. There is also the colour changing RGB (red, green, blue) type and the single colour type in a variety of colours. These various colour options can help to improve the aesthetics of your home or business environment, particularly at night.
•Water Resistance: This factor depends on where you intend to install the LED light. Wet/damp areas like bathrooms, pools, under the kitchen sink, etc, will require the waterproof type while other mostly-dry areas will require the non-waterproof type.
•Adhesive Property: For mounting the non-waterproof type which is usually self adhesive, simply peel the adhesive coating and stick it to the wall or panelling where you want it installed. On the other hand, the waterproof type will require the use of mounting clips and screws to hold them to the wall.
•Brightness: For indoors lighting, you may choose to buy the LED light strip with brighter illumination; while for outdoors and accent lighting, you will require those with lower levels of illumination.

LED strips have low energy requirements. Hence, they usually come with a rechargeable 12 volt power supply. Alternatively, you can plug it directly into the main power supply. They are generally economical and environmentally friendly to use. If you are the DIY type of person, then they are the best choice available for taking care of your basic lighting needs since the are easy to install with little technical knowhow.
